XBOX asked Loaded Pictures to create a video to open the E3 gaming expo in 2009. At shoot time there wasn’t any music licensed, so they used their best judgment only to later learn we couldn’t license any of the tracks used on set. There was a fair amount of lip sync for the game so now we were in a jam.
Our solution? We simply slowed down the footage to glacial speed, which allowed us to use any song. Speed ramping wasn’t really a thing at the time and I was using Final Cut 7 (this was before Premiere Pro overtook FCPX as my main NLE). The Twixtor plugin I used was very slow to render results but it looked great. Not only did it save the whole project, the video was hailed by XBOX as “the best video ever made for them to date.”
